A Message From our Founder

Hola y Bienvenidos!

For all those reading this, Thank you!

Thank you for visiting our website, for supporting us, for following us on social media, etc. To those that have never heard of us - Thank you for taking the time right now, to stop by to get a glimpse of who we are and what we do!

My name is Tianna Lenore Cummings and I am the Founder and serve as the current CEO of One Such Child, Inc.

Before we go any further, please allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota but I currently live in Greensboro, NC where One Such Child is located. I hold a degree in Economics and I am currently in school at Ohio University, pursuing my MBA with a concentration in Executive Management.

In mid summer of 2016, I traveled to the Dominican Republic to execute a Mission Trip with my church, much like I had done before, since 2005. This trip however was much different for me. I played a very different role. I was no longer seen as a youth team member but rather as a seasoned adult who knew the land and spoke the language. With this, something in me shifted during this particular trip and it hurt me on a deeper level to see the struggles and circumstances of these children. Their resources seemed to be decreasing, rather than increasing and it affected the children first.

I remember telling my mom that I needed to come back home and strike it rich so that I could help my people. At twenty-five, having visited since I was twelve/thirteen, it's easy to accept that pieces of my character were developed in part, because of my time in the Dominican Republic. The adults there have watched me grow and have taught me things, as I have done with their children who were just toddlers when I first visited. These people are my family and what I witnessed broke my heart. Children without proper shoes having to walk miles on gravel or poorly paved roads and some with no shoes at all. Children in eighty degree weather in US standard winter coats, to protect their arms from bug bites and diseases, the list continues.

So fast forward to returning back to the states. I purchased a composition notebook and began documenting my thoughts down - what was it exactly that I wanted to do? In what way did I want to help and make a difference? Was this something that I only wanted to do once or was this something that would grow to make a substantial impact in the lives of these children? All good questions and all that I thought hard on finding the answers.

I eventually (and when I say eventually, I mean about three days being state side), began to pursue the idea of what it would take to create a Non Profit Corporation. The decision had been made for me from deep within that this was something that I wanted to last much longer and further than just a one time thing and from there the wheels turned harder. I began drafting the team that I wanted to stand behind, beside me and with me on this journey.

And with a start to that team, on August 18, 2016, One Such Child became Incorporated under North Carolina state law and I have not looked back since. We are now pursuing the big goal of becoming a 501(c)3 exempt organization with our application being submitted later on this year.

Thank you again for visiting and I encourage you to check out the rest of our website.

I hope to see you at our next fundraiser. If you have any questions before then, please don't hesitate to contact me directly: tiannalenorecummings@onesuchchildinc.org
